Webb's Pro Fitness, located at 130 Washington Street in Norwell, officially closed on Wednesday, March 29, owners Gregg and Amy Webb said in a statement

"We thank you for being a part of our amazing club," the statement reads. "Lifelong friendships were created here, laughter echoed through the rooms."

The club was founded by the couple in December of 1981. The owners said part of the reason they decided to shut down was because of Amy's battle with cancer.

"I will do great and will live a full life. But, knowing I might ever have to go through a medical journey as long and hard as this 6 week one..we realized this may be the time to step out," Amy said. "There is never a good time, but this is the right time."

Webb's was known for offering popular fitness classes while also having a pool, the Patriot Ledger reports. Over the years, the club "won countless awards, navigated through impossible times, [and] adapted to ever-changing fitness trends," the Webb's said.

That long tradition of fitness will soon live on through a new venture, as the couple apparently sold the gym to a family looking to open a Brazilian jiu-jitsu studio.

"We have the most amazing instructors and staff and they – as a team – made Webb's what it is and always will be: the best," the Webb's continued. "We are forever grateful to you all."
